Catholic Monks, present all over Europe. Were really good at writing things down in books. And so they documented viking raids and warfare.
Viking raids did not occur year-round; they were primarily seasonal, taking place during the warmer months from late spring to early autumn when sea conditions were favorable for travel. The Vikings would typically launch their raids in the spring, returning home by autumn to prepare for winter. During winter months, they focused on farming, trading, and other domestic activities. Thus, while raiding was a significant part of Viking culture, it was not a continuous year-round activity.
they all got dieased and diied a long and horriable death.
The viking longship was the main reason people feared them. It was light, and had a flat bottom, so it could easily be pulled ashore, and was able to navigate with ease through shallow waters. villiages and towns that were very up river and thought themselves safe, would be shocked when a warband came from the river, sacked and pillaged, and then left in an hour or two. They were fast, fierce, brave, and skilled.

A ship, to a viking sailor, was life. It was the means of travel, by which all raids were possible. Without yearly raids for rations and luxury goods (by which more rations could be obtained), vikings may not have survived the harsh northern winters. The raids also served religious and social significance, determining the merit of a warrior and the possibility of ones entrance into Asgard. Overall though, the boat was the lifeblood for their way of life.

If all Viking raids into territories outside of Scandinavia are taken into account, completeley exluding the the Swedish Viking's ventures to the east, the Vikings raided current day France three times for every time they raided the British isles. The consequences were dire, because no-one could stand up to them. They took what they wanted, being neither good nor bad, and as a consequence we had our first European Union 1000 years ago. Not ruled by Vikings, but ensured by Vikings.

You can become a modern Viking by finding a reenactment group in your area that reenacts that time in history. Look up the Society for Creative Anarchism online and they should show a group in your area and when they meet. There are people all over who do this type of thing.
