There were experimental TVs in the US as early as 1937, but no broadcasts to the public. There were even earlier experiments in Russia, and in the US, Philo T. Farnsworth began experimenting and applying for patents as early as 1926. By 1947, there were several stations in New York City broadcasting to the public and most people date this as the beginning of TV.
