Slave traders traveled to Africa where they would disgustingly buy people who had been imprisoned for crimes or did not contribute to society. They were then sold to the rich men who had plantations which were growing tobacco, sugar, coffee, and cotton. The slaves were sold at an auction, but before they were sold, they checked over for injuries they had suffered during their awful travel on the middle passage which was the journey from Africa to America. During the auction, one man would be dragged to the podium where white men would inspect him. Then approximately two minutes later, the bidding would start and they would be sold to go and work on the plantations for the white men.

Depends on who you talk to, in some ways yes, in some ways no. In some countries blacks are still treated as slaves. In America blacks did not have the same civil liberties that white people had, however they were not bought and sold as property (...not openly).
slaves brought to the Americas were distributed in different ways . one method , which must have been horrifying to the newly arrived slaves , was known as a 'scramble'. When the slave ships reached port their cargoes were herded together to be sold , either on deck or in nearby yard . Sometimes they were sold at a fixed price per head , rather than being auctioned , and the purchasers would rush upon them , grabbing those they want to buy. (taken from a different question)
