A lot, aat least 5,000. But all pilots were potential kamikaze pilots.

All but a few PH airmen were killed at Midway. While I don't know how many survived the war, it is not at all true that most perished at Midway. Many died in the six months between Pearl Harbor and Midway. In these six months the Japanese carriers had almost nonstop action, and inevitably, some pilots were killed with every strike. The battle of the Coral Sea in May of 1942 hit the air groups of carriers Shokaku and Zuikaku particularly hard. Furthermore, while all of the Japanese planes at Midway were destroyed, the great bulk went down with their ships, while the pilots were safely evacuated.
There is a book that you might be able to find in your local library or get on loan from another larger library. It's titled The Divine Wind. The book was writen by two Japanese officers who commanded air bases where Kamikaze fliers were stationed. It should answer all your questions. Library of Congress Number ISBN 0-553-12578-8Kamikazes were Japanese pilots who were on suicide missions. They were insructed to run their planes into ships or bases in hope to kill. The Kamikaze pilots were trained in wooden crates as there were not enough planes to train them in. Also, the Kamikaze's only needed to be in the air long enough to find a target.More intriguing is: Why did Kamakize pilots wear helmets?
Certainly the victory of the Brits in the Battle of Britain turned the war around so the Allied Forces could have victory. Think about it. They had nearly destroyed all the Luftwaffe planes Hitler was not going to use for Operation Barbarossa. But, that did not matter. The Russians took care of the rest of the Luftwaffe. By the time the Allied Forces started fighting in the East and the West at the same time the Luftwaffe was a joke. They had less than a hundred planes by then. Their jets were a joke too because they were bad planes as far as aerodynamics and the pilots did not know how to fly the new jets.

They are able to see where all the planes are. They can guide the pilots of the planes and tell them where to land and when to. They can tell them when the air is really busy, and when there is no one in the air.
The target of the Kamikaze planes and pilots were all United States Naval ships, especially the aircraft carrier.
Pilots undergo extensive and ongoing training; they must keep up to date with all safety measures and regulations. They are the final visual inspectors of a planes integrity before they take the controls to fly.
Pilots fly through all kinds of bad weather. The most serious would be lines of thunderstorms. Small planes should land; jets can fly around the storm.
There were 98 American aircraft destroyed (it may include planes destroyed on the ground at Midway), though not all there pilots were killed. The figure of 307 includes aircraft crewmen (non-pilots) losses on the island of Midway and people assigned to ships crews.
Absolutely not - there are far more planes in the Navy than there will ever be Academy graduates who are on a flight career path.
Well it depends on what country the plane has left from. Say if it was a country they were leaving from or traveling to with a war happening for example the pilots would probably have handguns and there would be guards on the plane. If the country that the plane was leaving from or going to was safe for instance Austria England Canada the planes pilots would probably just have tasers handguns or nothing at all. P . S . most planes do have some sort of gun in them but they are not used very often.
Answer 1: After the flight's routing is decided (this is planned before the pilots arrive to the aircraft), the pilots enter all their waypoints into a very complex computer. The enroute portion of the flight is mostly controlled by computers with pilot's info. The common misconception is that pilots no longer have to do anything but watch the airplane fly itself. This is not true: pilots have to know what to do in case something (or everything) fails. They are also in complete charge of push back (from the gate), taxi, take off, landing, and taxiing again. Among communications and other major and minor events during the flight. Answer 2: I wish my plane had a very complex computer to put my way points into and it would just fly to it. Though some planes do have a flight computer, some (not all) of the General Aviation (GA) airplanes have GPS (not unlike your car) and auto-pilots. You can do your flight planning on maps (sectionals) and fly your plane by just maps, timer, and dead reckoning. This way is not fun on long trips, but all pilots learn how to fly this way.
