Eagle Family Foods was created in 1997 by employees of Borden Milk Products. In May 2007, Eagle Family Foods Inc. was acquired by J.M. Smucker Company.

Their products include Eagle Brand condensed milk, low fat condensed milk and signature premium dessert kits, as well as Borden Eggnog, Kava neutralized coffee beverage and None Such mincemeat.

Eagle had sold Realemon and Realime to Mott's in 2001 and Cremora and Cremora Royale to Dean Foods in 2003.

Not trying to be a jerk, but the above answer is not on-point, not only that, the question does ask for the "HISTORY" behind "Eagle Brand Milk", not Eagle Family Foods.

Eagle Brand was first introduced in 1856. Yes it has been around that long. Eagle Brand was created by Gail Borden. Gail Borden introduced Eagle Brand in 1856 to combat food poisoning and other illnesses due to lack of refrigeration and preservation techniques. It was during the Civil War that Eagle Brand got it's big break and made it a household name. The military needed a milk that would keep well and for extended periods of time and well, Eagle Brand fulfilled that need. Also Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk has be credited with reducing the infant mortality rate during this period. Gail Borden's discovery provided milk that would remain safe and wholesome - at that time, an important contribution to the health of infants and children.

Elsie, the Borden Cow, was introduced in 1939 and can still be seen on Eagle Brand (and Borden) products today.

In 1856 there were 3 varieties of Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk, their original being the most popular and has remained number 1 for over 147 years.

In 1994 they introduced a "Low Fat" version

In 1995 they introduced a "Fat Free" version
