The Great Patriotic War was the term that Stalin popularized for the Russian involvement in World War Two, in an effort to rally the Russian populance around his leadership (i.e. to fight for the survival of Mother Russia from the Evil Nazis). It does not have anything to do with WW1 or the Russian Civil War.
