In England, if a person feels insulted, that person can sue for damages. In the United States, in order to sue the statement must be false and uttered with malice. Thus, a person could make a false statement, but as long as no malice was intended, no lawsuit would be possible. It is possible for someone to go to a court in England and win damages against a person in the United States for something a person in the United States wrote. If anyone from England came to New York to collect the amount due from that English court, that person would end up in a New York Prison. That was one of the issues the United States fought a war with England about in 1776.
