The first book of the Bible to be written in more or less the form we know today is believed to be the Book of Deuteronomy, which was written in the seventh century BCE, during the reign of King Josiah. Other books of approximately the same period are the Deuteronomic History (Joshua, Judges, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings and 2 Kings), the first section of the Book of Isaiah and the Book of Micah. The Books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers were completed during the sixth-century-BCE Babylonian Exile and the other books of what is now the Old Testament followed, until the second century BCE. Some material in these books had already been written down in different formats as early as the ninth and eighth centuries BCE.The New Testament books began to be written before the middle of the first century CE and were completed before the middle of the second century CE.Thus, the entire Bible took around nine hundred years to be written in much the form we know today, somewhat more than five centuries.
