I have read of extreme cases where tankers were in action or under fire for prolonged periods, and the crew would urinate in the shell case of an expended round for the main gun. Then they'd have to try not to spill it until it could be emptied out. I'm sure there were men who went in their pants. Particularly in the instant after their tank was pierced by an enemy shell, as they were dying. People who are on fire often do. War is a filthy business in more ways than one, and there is little dignity in battlefield death.
