Efforts on the US home front?

While US soldiers were fighting abroad in World War II, women were back in the states working in factories. Communities were organizing scrap and rubber drives to make more supplies for the soldiers. Additionally, food and gasoline were rationed, so that more could go to the front lines.

Once the war started for the US the efforts on the part of the people in the US was phenomenal. They sacrificed their way of life for working in war factories, participated in food rationing, grew victory gardens and donated to recycle programs. They bought billions of dollars of war bonds. They gave up their sons, husbands, fathers, uncles and cousins to the war casualties. The women really rallied behind every thing they could for the war and for each other. 300,000 women joined the military, Red Cross and the USO. Companies gave up manufacturing there normal goods to build war goods. The Coca Cola donated Coke pop to the troops around the world. The Mars Bar company invented M&Ms and gave them to the troops. The Hershey's chocolate gave them millions of bars of chocolate with the troops gladly handed out in Europe and in the Pacific Theater to kids and adults in the Nations they entered.
