Ferdinand Magellan
The first documented circumnavigation was completed by Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Elcano between August 1519 and April 1521. Magellan was killed en route in a battle in the Phillipines. Eighteen sailers survived the voyage and seventeen turned up at a later date
Magellan himself died in the Philippines in 1521, eighteen months before his around the world voyage was completed in 1522. Only one of his five ships, Victoria, completed the circumnavigation of the globe, with just 18 survivors of the 250 who started the journey. Magellan's successor as captain, the Spaniard Juan Sebastian Elcano, decided to continue to sail west after Magellan's death.The main record of the voyage is the journal was kept by the Italian scholar Antonio Pigafetta, who served as an assistant to both captains.

Ferdinand Magellan's journey around the world lasted about three years, from 1519 to 1522. Magellan himself died during the expedition in the Philippines, but his crew completed the first circumnavigation of the globe.
I suppose it depends on how you define "childhood". Rio de Janeiro was established when Shakespeare was one, the Battle of Lepanto was fought when he was seven, and Francis Drake completed his circumnavigation of the Globe when Shakespeare was sixteen.

It's Magellan. Also he did not complete a full circumnavigation, as he was killed in the Philippines about half way around the globe. The rest of the voyage was undertaken by Elcano. The ship Victoria, was the only ship that completed the voyage between 1519-1522
