Actually, the first Americans came from asia. These are the people we know as Native Americans. They crossed over to North America by a land bridge. They did not know this was a land bridge, though. They were simply following the herds of animals that they hunted. Then came the English settlers. These people wanted to claim America, even though the Native Americans were already living here! By now, the Native Americans had found there way through what we now call Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and South America.

It isn't exactly known when they first migrated to Australia, but the general consensus is that the modern Aboriginals (Aboriginals as we know them today) migrated to Australia around (15,000 - 20,000) years ago. There is a LOT of evidence of a far older culture living in Australia for at least 60,000 years but dissapeared around the time the Aboriginals migrated here. The older culture was prominent in the north west of the country where paintings of the ancient "Wandjina" are the only remnants left of the first inhabitants.
Native Americans never migrated to the Americas. It was the Europeans that migrated here and the only thing they found was Native Americans. Native Americans have been here since the beginning. Hence the name Native AMERICANS.
