The first known inhabitants of Nevada can be traced back to more than 20,000 years ago. According to archaeological finds, the Washoe tribe inhabited the mountain areas. The Uto-Aztecan tribe inhabited a large portion of the northeastern area of the state. The Shoshone was a part of this group. The south was inhabited by the Paiute. This group of inhabitants could also be found in the northern portion of Nevada.
