French legislators are working in two chambers: l'assemblée nationale (the national assembly) and le Sénat (the senate)

Members of the Assemblée Nationale are called "les députés" and are elected directly by the public. Members of the Sénat (les sénateurs / sénatrices) are elected by special electors (mayors, members of local councils, etc...)
