How Did Thomas Jefferson Influence the United States Constitution?

The states constitutions stated important ideas that were necessary to each state. The United States Constitution tried to put in everything that was important to each state in the big constitution for the whole country.

The short answer is, he didn't. He was in France at the time. Apparently, he was kept informed of the developments at the Philadelphia Convention by letters from James Madison. He generally supported the Constitution with the addition of a Bill of Rights. But as for the writing of the Constitution, he doesn't seem to have been closely involved.

Thomas Jefferso really didn't directly affect the Constitution. He was in France when the constitutional convention was convened (called by his arch ememy Alexander Hamilton). Madison was the prime author of the Constitution with a little help from Monroe, Hamilton and several others. In fact Jefferson vacillated as to whether to support the Constitution and thought of it as a sort of temporary document.
