Native Americans had to hunt, catch or grow what they wanted to eat, their food choices were limited to what was seasonally available and what grew naturally in the area.
Early European explorers were looking for an easier route to Asia and India. Believing the Earth was round, they thought they could travel west to get there. When they came to land, thinking they found India, they referred to the natives as Indians not realizing it was a different continent.
There are strong Hispanic influences in modern California from the early Pueblo settlers. Mexican settlers moved to California starting around 1846, when California became US territory claimed from Mexico.

Therefore, people did not move to California specifically because of the war. However, throughout the late 18th and early 19th centuries, people did move to California for various reasons, including Spanish colonization, missions, trade opportunities, and the search for wealth, such as gold during the Gold Rush.
