It depends on if you are referring to WW1 or WW2 U-boats. WW1 U-boats were fairly small and often called "Canoes" by their crews. In WW2 there were many different sizes of boats. The Type VII boat was the most common boat and was fairly small by modern standards and especially compared to US fleet subs of the time. The Type IX was a larger, longer range boat with more torpedo tubes and a larger crew.

Each type also had different classes with different configurations and lengths. The Type VII boats were about 220 feet long. The Type IX boats ranged from 251 to 287 feet long depending on class.
