This is a decision he has to make on his own. Many young people are sucked into "getting a good education" through the armed forces when they can't afford it elsewhere. While it is true to a point, one can be pushed into active duty with the wars that are breaking out these days.
Many young people fantasize about war, and some even find it romantic or adventuresome, but all they have to do is go on websites to see how dirty, horrific and miserable war really is.
I don't blame you one bit for being worried, but, you aren't married and he has a right to make his own decisions. Just be sure he gets the RIGHT info before joining up and, if possible get him to talk to someone that has joined up.
War is bad enough when one has to fight for all the right things, but the war going on today is questionable and it's certainly been proved that civilians are not getting the whole truth from their governments. Do we ever!
