The Empress Eugenie died of natural causes- old age- at 94 in Spain. a Deeply religious woman, she was buried in a religious habit, though no photos have been circulated of her viewing or visitation as is the continental term. The Empress lies buried in Farnborough abbey, in England, as does her son who was a war casualty.Eugenie was considered the Patroness of the Suez Canal and appropriately was the prototype for the advertising mascot Phoebe Snow used by the DL&W railroad up to the sixties. Phoebe Snow was introduced in rhyming advertiisng jingles circa l905 many showing raillroaders on the job such as signalmen in action and bridge tenders. ( again the transportation angle) it was never formally stated that Phoebe Snow was a take-off on Empress Eugenie but is obvious form sketches.
