Mao Zedong believed that the driving force behind revolution is the peasantry, viewing them as a crucial agent for change in society, particularly in agrarian contexts. He emphasized the role of class struggle and the mobilization of the masses to overthrow oppressive regimes. In contrast, Mahatma Gandhi saw revolution as a moral and spiritual awakening, advocating for nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience as means to achieve social and political change. I disagree with the premise of your question. It stipulates that the French Revolution had a single leader aside from rage resulting from opression and mass chaos and that had Gandhi been able to take control it would have been a revolution. But, in an attempt to answer, it would not have been very different. Had Gandhi been in control and tried to solve the problems peacefully, he could not have maintained power over a group out for blood.
