Nicholas II was a very weak-willed, indecisive tsar. His regime was also a highly oppressive one. However, the greatest contributor was all the defeats his army suffered against Germany in World War I. In addition, they didn't have enough provisions: food, clothing, weapons, ammunition, etc. And he kept sending them into battle arenas that were basically suicide missions because of these factors. In essence, he was not a good leader. Most of the military and the Duma (parliament) had had enough and insisted that he abdicate.
