James Watt, who the watt was named after, was a Scottish inventor and mechanical engineer known for his improvements to steam engines. His steam engine substantially contributed to the Industrial Revolution. He also patented several other important inventions including the rotary engine, the double-action engine and the steam indicator. Wattâ??s engines were used in wool, cotton and flour mills.
