Lenin and Trotsky employed brutality and terror as strategic tools during the Russian Civil War by implementing a policy of ruthless suppression against perceived enemies, including the White Army and political dissidents. They established the Red Terror, a campaign of mass arrests, executions, and intimidation to instill fear and eliminate opposition. Trotsky, as the head of the Red Army, also utilized harsh discipline and strict military tactics to ensure loyalty and efficiency among troops.
