How did Lucy maud Montgomery change the position of women?

Maud Montgomery showed that a woman could be a superior word smith. Other women had written books. That was nothing new. No other person in her day, man or woman, showed the ability to write such beautiful English. Many people were surprised that a woman could write better than any man had ever written. We wish she had taken on more difficult material than predictable children's stories. She did not and we are poorer for it.
