it was against the law to have slaves back then in new york (ny) (am not saying they alow it in N.Y now but just sayin that back then it was aganst the law as it is today)

There was slavery in New York but it wasn't as bad as the other state such as Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, Kentucky,and Missouri. They freed their slaves before the emancipation proclamation hope this helps :) Jeffrey Yu

This also founded schools and orphanage for children of slaves. 1799 they abolished slaves in New York State.
