Maewyn Succat, as Patrick was called at the time, undoubtedly sinned in his life. He was a human and subject to the same temptations as all humans, with the exception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. However, since details of his early life are sparse, we find no mention of any transgressions or indiscretions of youth.
We do know that Maewyn's father was a Roman official in Britain and a deacon in the Catholic Church. When he was 16 years of age he was abducted by Irish (Druid) pirates and taken to Ireland and sold as a slave. He spent the next 6 years forced to work as a shepherd for a pagan chieftain until he managed to escape and find his way back to his home in Britain.
