Susan B. Anthony was orrigionally very supportive of Victoria Woodhull. After Woodhull opened her brokerage firm Anthony said, "Bravo My Dear Woodhull! I feel new live-new hope that our battle is to be short, sharp, and decisive... I have never in the whole twenty years' good fight felt so full of life and hope. Go ahead! bright, glorious, young and strong spitit!"
These good feelings, however, did not last forever. Woodhull had become a leader in Anthony's women's sufferage organization, but Woodhull wished to bring it in a direction that Anthony did not approve of. Woodhull had the ear of the public and she brought up issues like free love, marital rape, and fair wages. Anthony wished the organization to focus more on a woman's right to vote. Their relationship ended in bitterness and mistrust.
