How did ancient Greeks impact the US?

As two thousand years separated them, not at all.

However they did hand down a heritage in art, architecture, theatre and recently language where Greek words are used to form the basis of new modern words.

The idea that modern politics is based on Greek origins stretches facts. The similarity between a tiny Greek city-state whose citizens numbered in the tens of thousands and a modern country which has tens or hundreds of millions living over a large area is tenuous. There were some basic Greek political ideas, but not relevant political systems.
