It was expected and hoped that daughters would become capable managers of households, and they were trained from an early age in the many skills they required to do this job. With luck, their parents would be able to arrange a marriage with a suitable man, one who would be acceptable to their daughter. Parents certainly tried very hard to do so.

Parents cared for their children in the 16th century as much as they do now, and this included both sons and daughters.
