The first humans arrived in North America about 12,000 years ago. At the time, because it was during the Ice Age, they probably dealt with harsh, cold winters, and only had mild summers.

At this time, all people made their tools from stone. These tools included knives, spearheads, hatchets, etc. People had already discovered how to use fire.

They were hunter-gatherers, and relied predominantly on big game animals for food, such as bison, mammoths, mastodons, camels (yes, camels lived in North America back then), and somewhat on smaller animals like deer, elk, rabbits, squirrels, fish, etc, and some fruits, seeds, and other plant foods.

They wore clothing made from animal hides. I am not certain what kind of shelter they had, although it probably varied depending on where the people lived. Because they needed to follow the herds to get food, they probably used portable shelters, similar to the native Americans of the Great Plains who hunted bison, and lived in tepees made from bison hide laid over a frame of long wooden posts.
