They selected straight shafts, took off the bark, did a bit of carving where necessary, as it always was at least to cut a notch. Attached the point by tying it on, typically with the very end of the shaft split so the two halves pinched the point between them. The fletching was usually tied in place with thread, but could also have been glued.
