The formal social system created by Toyotomi Hideyoshi was a very strong reflection of the feelings of the population of Japan. Before this system was put in place no citizen had a set role such as samurai also being or becoming farmers. This was because of a lack of a stable government due to constant warring between powerful families so the general populace did not have solidarity in life. His system was so stable that it was able to last 300 years.
