Nerva was an old man when he became emperor. He was sixty-five. His reign lasted only two years. There were no wars and no battles during his reign.
Trajan was the adopted son of Emperor Nerva during the Roman Empire. His father was the first of the "Five Good Emperors" making him the second. Trajan expanded Roman territory & strengthened it's borders.
a.d. 98-117 a.d. 98-117 Trajan was Emperor from 98-117 AD. After Nero's suicide Rome dropped back into the Civil War which had been the norm before Augustus became the first Emperor. Vespasian established some level of stability when he seized power in 69, and Vespasian was succeeded by his sons Titus and Domitian. There was no obvious successor to the Flavian line (Vespasian's family) so Nerva became Emperor for a few years - but Nerva was old and childless, and never very popular. When Nerva died Trajan became Emperor (having been previously 'adopted' by the old emperor) - establishing the principle that even a non-Patrician could become emperor by acclamation in the new style Roman Empire.
