By sea along the coast, or the Ho Chi Minh trail which went thru Laos and Cambodia. Nothing went thru the DMZ (17th Parallel); without getting completely destroyed by airpower or artillery. The "Z" was no-man's land.

South Vietnam's surrender to North Vietnam is what ended the Vietnam War. The North Vietnamese had the goal of Vietnamese Unification and the surrender of South Vietnam in 1975 allowed them to achieve that objective.
There is NO North Vietnam & South Vietnam today (and there hasn't been a north & south for over 30 years; when the north conquered the south, ending the war in 1975). Today's Communist Vietnam is President Triet.
