One must remember during the Salem Witch Trials when 6 men, the rest women were accused of witchcraft and questions the women (all imprisoned and some died in prison awaiting execution by hanging or tied to a stake to burn to death) only said that they were tortured and tormented. Unlike today the women accused of being witches were unable to say how they were tortured, but one can only guess.
Researchers who have read documents, etc., have come up with a few clear statements of torture to try and make the accused admit they were witches and all refused.
To this day researchers re Salem Witch Trials are still trying to trace back what really happened and what would cause such mass hysteria. One theory is that the rye that the villagers used was often moldy which would cause fevers, chills, stomach aches and sometimes death, but there has been little proof of this.
Generally speaking, someone who believes they are a witch will tell others. Or not. Telling people you are pagan/wiccan/witch is a personal choice. You have the option of not telling anyone, ever. If you want to know if your friend/child/spouse/family member/lover is a witch, ask them and make a point not to flip out if they do decided to tell you. Dont flip out if they dont tell you either.
they would drown them and if they floated they were a witchand they were going to die but if they sank they weren't a witch but they were dead anyway
During the Salem Witch Trials, people would look for anything out of the ordinary to accuse someone of witchcraft. One woman who wore brighter colors than normal and who had a bit of temper was accused of being a witch. She was innocent, but was still killed. Basically anything that was the tiniest bit out of the ordinary for a Puritan was a sign of witchcraft.
They must blame someone else of being a witch
Unlike most European witch hunts, the Salem panic did not convict the stereotypical witch evey time. In Europe, witch hunts began when someone died unexpectedaly or something close to that happened and a person who fit the traditional view of a witch was blamed and executed. In Salem, the girls called out on people that cannot all be connected by one trait.
Why would you use witch craft to make someone love you when you could find someone who actually loves you.

Of course
A Witch is someone who practices Witchcraft. There are so many variations of Witchcraft. Someone who have learn and practice Witchcraft is a Witch. Anyone can learn and become a Witch.
A witch is a Wiccan, someone who practices witchcraft, but if they don't tell people about their religion it's almost impossible to tell a witch from anyone else.

There was no one who was really a witch there. if someone decided they thought you were a witch you went to trial for it and the reason people were tried was because girls were having strange actions which doctors later concluded was hysteria.
No, because The Blair Witch Project is a ficitional film.
The same way they do it now! They pick on someone they don't like or who is different in some way.
