People began to grow their own food as well. In what were called 'Victory' gardens. People also learned to live without excess and or cut back on what they would normally use. My grandmother loved milk in her coffee.., my grandfather would use butter in his coffee so my grandmother could have her milk. Most middle-class people participated. The wealthy were not affected.
