I think that what the chapter means is that the power you contain, has pride. I really think it's weird because it would make more sense if the title were, 'The Power in Your Pride', because pride can have power. For example, if you're really good at singing, you'll have pride because it makes you seem better than people who don't have your talent. Then you'll have more power than them. Now put Dove and Johnny in this situation. He purposely gave Johnny that cracked basin because Johnny had a lot of pride, and Dove just loved seeing Johnny fail. If you reminisce about the first chapter, Dove was jealous but also admired Johnny for who he was. But since Dove knew that the "great Master Johnny" was so much better than himself, Dove wanted to make Johnny feel less superior. And without power, there's no pride. Now back to the question, I think the title means is that the power Johnny holds (because he's a well educated young silversmith) produces pride. You wouldn't have pride if you weren't good at anything, or if you didn't have power (which may represent your exceptional talents). Let's say your parents are rich, so people at school acknowledge that and treat you royally. They're nicer to you and want to be your friend because of your riches. That's your power. Then what follows is pride. So you go around rubbing it in everyone's faces' that you're rich. To explain what I mean, I looked up what pride means: 1.satisfaction with self: the happy satisfied feeling somebody experiences when having or achieving something special that other people admire 2.proper sense of own value: the correct level of respect for the importance and value of your personal character, life, efforts, or achievements 3.feeling of superiority: a haughty attitude shown by somebody who believes, often unjustifiably, that he or she is better than others (~FROM BING DICTIONARY~) I believe that this is what I mean. You have pride because you're feeling much more superior than everyone else. All this basically describes who Johnny is. He has a lot of pride in himself because he is an excelled silversmith. But because Dove took his power away by the cracked basin, Johnny no longer has pride. In case it still isn't clear on how Dove took Johnny's power away, think this way. Dove meant to mortify Johnny when the basin failed. But instead, Johnny slipped and got hurt by burning his hand. And because Johnny's hand is burned, he can't be the silversmith he always was;therefore, the power is taken from Johnny by Dove. To add to that, Dove and Dusty are, apparently, more superior than Johnny because what use is a cripple~handed silversmith? Isn't that what they were aiming for? This is EXACTLY how they took his power. And because Johnny's power has been taken, so was his pride. It's like an equation: POWER=PRIDE OR (POWER TIMES ZERO)= NO PRIDE.
