The creation of the American republican form of government in the 18th century (and beyond) was in fact influenced by Renaissance ideas, if more indirectly rather than directly. Just one example would be the following: the American Founders celebrated and made use of their innate ability to make great, or at least new, things happen in their own sphere of life; that is, they sought to use their own abilities to do something special in the 'here and now' of their own time and place in a manner similar to that of many of the great Renaissance figures and societies.
