Before the cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney, producing cotton was very difficult and long process in the South. And slaves were expensive. When the cotton gin was introduced to the South, cotton became even more profitable and easier to produce resulting in more money to buy more slaves. This really killed the US and was one factor that led to The Civil War because more Slaves were needed to produce all the cotton that was grown.
