Philip at first supported Elizabeth I as England's queen. When, Elizabeth aided the Dutch against Spain, Philip decided to act against to her.

Philip laid plans to invade England. This became known as the Spanish Armada. An armada is a fleet of warships organized to carry out a mission. In two months, the Armada entered the English Channel in crescent formation. Spain had large galleons that were very hard to maneuver. However, the English had faster, more maneuverable ships and longer-range cannons than the Spanish. As the Armada circled the tip of Great Britain, a storm struck. The storm annihilated the Spanish ships the Spanish lost many men.

After the defeat at the Spanish Armada, Spain had many problems. Spain had used up most of their resources in forming ships. Spain declined because they stole and looted places. As they stole and looted places, they soon ran out of places to steal from. That is the reason why the Spanish were spread out along the Americas.
