They needed to have shelter from the cold and winter weather. They had to have stored away enough food to last until Spring. Having a store of logs for their fires meant they could keep warm indoors. If the weather permitted it, they could go hunting for deer. Or go fishing through holes cut into the iced over rivers.etc.
Shallow soils, harsh winters, hostile natives, inept leadership,
what was life like in New Hampshire in 1623?
Colonists in the New England colonies endured bitterly cold winters and mild summers. Land was flat close to the coastline but became hilly and mountainous farther inland. Soil was generally rocky, making farming difficult. Cold winters reduced the spread of disease.
In the 1600's, the clothing in New Hampshire colonists were composed of wool and linen cloth, with some leather. Black colored clothing were worn to indicate respectability, blue colored clothing for children and servants, and russet for countrymen.
