I have seen this on discovery channel once, it seems they used simple pulleys for this, and even the man power was big enough to handle the situation.
Slave labor.

they made blocks of mud and laid them in the sun to dry
they had cliffs of granite in which Egyptian people cut out their blocks from to buit the magnificant pyramids there are today.
they built a ramp up which the blocks were dragged to the working level.
Well, the ancient Egyptians would travel to a place pretty far from the building site where Giant blocks of limestone would be cut and shipped to the building site. There, the blocks would be shaped and pulled up the pyramid using dirt or wooden ramps. The pyramids contained about two million blocks! It required the work from ten to thirty thousand workers to complete it in twenty years!
The egyptians wanted to use them in the building of their temples.
Yes it was, The Egyptians actually carried huge blocks of it to higher floors using a lift... it took Years for them to carry all of it. The reason they used Limestone was because Egypt is full of it...

The Egyptians used big blocks of rock
Two words, mechanical advantage.
It is because Egyptians were smart enough to make stone blocks. But even if they used sand, it would be destroyed by the next day because of natural forces.
I found out it helped the Egyptians hammer the blocks into place.
they carried them up with their muscles
they made blocks of mud and laid them in the sun to dry
They would rest their heads on their stone blocks then close their eyes.
Scientists believe that the ancient Egyptians used a combination of sledges, ramps, and manpower to move the heavy blocks, possibly aided by water to reduce friction. Recent studies suggest they might have also used a lubricant like water or animal fat on the sand in front of the sledges to make them easier to pull.
The Egyptians ahd rollers, or long cylinders, that they would roll the sandstone blocks. they also used many slaves.
