We are fortunate to have the accounts written by Samuel de Champlain who made alliances with the Wendat (called Huronsor "stubble-heads" by the French) in 1609.

In these accounts, the Hurons regularly travelled by bark canoes; at times they also travelled on foot through the woods. They had no horses, as was the case with most eastern tribes.
