Mannerism is a form of painting notable for elongated forms, precariously balanced poses, a collapsed perspective, irrational settings, and theatrical lighting.
The High Renaissance art was represented by its development of highly realistic linear perspective with the works of Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael along with Botticelli, Donatello and Titian representing artistic pinnacles that were to be much imitated by other artists.
Mannerism, still a controversial term, followed High Renaissance, and was later replaced by the Baroque style.
While Renaissance paintings used linear perspective quite commonly, medieval paintings used other types of perspective. This meant that the treatment of perspective in Renaissance painting was closer to what you would see in a photograph.
Renaissance artists were often trained in anatomy, but medieval painters almost never were. So the Renaissance art tended to be more anatomically correct.
Renaissance artists were interested in different things than medieval artists. Medieval artwork tended to deal with idealized Christian religious themes, while renaissance artwork was more involved with ordinary human beings, important people of their times, and even ancient mythology.
Early renaissance was very different b/c they were just getting started..... What began in the Early Renaissance was perfected in the High Renaissance.

Mannerism
balance, harmony and moderation
Baroque art has more emotion and is very dramatic. There is a lot of movement and energy, unlike mannerism/Renaissance art which is controlled and idealistic. While both are very decorative, baroque art is much more realistic that mannerism. Another characteristic of baroque art is there is a lot of symmetry and 3D shapes. Extremes of light are used.
The 14th-17th century Renaissance was a cultural movement. The 12th century Renaissance was more of a political and economic movement

Mannerism
Mannerism emerged during the Italian High Renaissance in approximately 1520 CE and lasted until about 1580 CE. It was influenced by the harmonious ideals of the Renaissance. The early renaissance was a period of intellectualism and mannerism artists wanted to push intellectual sophistication one step further.

Well, the Renaissance is divided into two parts: early and high. So really, the High Renaissance would be considered the transitional period between Early Renaissance and Baroque. In most of Europe, the High Renaissance lasted until about 1600, when the Baroque period began. In Italy, the High Renaissance technically lasted until 1600, but around 1520, another artistic movement became popular: Mannerism. Mannerism was a movement dominated by complicated, intellectual art. Allegories, distorted figures, and complicated compositions are characteristic of this movement. Other Italian artists persisted in the High Renaissance style, so that time frame (1520 to 1600) is still considered to be part of the High Renaissance.
Michelangelo was primarily a sculptor (e.g. the David statue) during the High Renaissance, but he is also famous for his paintings in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.

Both Renaissance art and Mannerism were movements that emerged in Italy in the 16th century. They both focused on human figures, anatomy, and perspective in their artwork. However, while Renaissance art aimed for realism and accuracy, Mannerism emphasized exaggeration, elongation of figures, and complex compositions.
