These instruction are for some laptops running WindowsXP they will be similar but not identical to other Windows OS versions.

# Connect the extra monitor to the laptops video out port (probably with a D-SUB 15 cable. # If you are real lucky all you will have to do is figure out which "function" key will cycle between Built in monitor External monitor and both internal and external monitor. (on my Dell it's Function + F8 where is a key with blue letters to the lower left beside the Alt key) You are set! (you so have to wait a several seconds for the image to shift) If that doesn't work:

# On the Desktop, right-click and choose Properties # Select the Settings tab of the dialog # Here you should have a sketch of the monitors available and dropdown list of monitors and be able to see your extra monitor there. If you do not then this instruction is too short for you and you will have to go the Advanced tab- I won't go into that because I do not know what graphics card you have. # Click on the screen in the sketch window and choose it as primary. You might have to adjust resolution so that things look good, you will do that by dragging the slider in the left center of the Settings tab of the Display Propertied dialog.

What type of monitor does a notebook use?

Laptops generally have LCD displays. They also usually have a connector on the rear of the laptop where you can attach an external monitor. Using an external monitor is a good way to diagnose a defective laptop display if you suspect t the LCD laptop display is bad.

What does it mean no external display is attached on computer screen?

This would generally be observed on a laptop/notebook system when you are using the integrated screen and do not have an external monitor attached. If you try to switch from one display to the other, it will tell you it has no external display to switch to.

How do you switch back to the internal display on a laptop after disconnecting an external monitor?

Most laptops can switch between the internal display, the external display, and both by pressing the "Fn" key and one of the function keys (such as F5).

Why does external monitor hooked to laptop have a green tint to it and laptop monitor is fine when tint adjustments will not fix the problem?

What is the reason why i do not see a picture on my laptops lcd?

You may have the picture routed to an external monitor, most laptops have a key which combined with the "Fn" key will switch the display back and forth between the LCD and the external port. If there isn't even any light coming from the display then you may need to reseat the LCD cable where it connects to the motherboard, or you may have a faulty backlight. If this is the case then you should still be able to get a picture from an external monitor and run the diagnostic tools that come with your laptop. If your laptop is on and you get no display from either the LCD or the external monitor even after switching the display output back and forth then your laptop is not completing POST, and you need to check the error codes in the user manual.

Why does laptop say you have 2monitor's?

difult monitor and external monitor Because you probably have the connection (and ability to operate) a second monitor built in to the laptop. Check the plugs on the side of the laptop, there is no doubt a plug for an additional monitor.

How do you hook up your IBM laptop to an external monitor?

If the IBM laptop you use has a VGA port you just connect your monitor cable directly to the port. Then turn on the laptop and it should install the drivers needed to use the external monitor automatically. If you laptop does not have a VGA port then you will need a "Laptop replica port" to add the VGA port so you can connect the monitor.

How do you connect laptop to a monitor laptop screen is broke?

Plug the monitor into the laptop. Easy as plugging in a lamp. Let's hope the port isn't damaged, too. However, some laptops will not begin using an external display unless you set it to from the advanced display properties (in Windows), in which case the laptop's monitor needs to be at least somewhat usable in order to use the second one. Answer I would suggest to replace the whole LCD screen. I bought the LCD from ScreenCountry and completed the rebuild, booted the machine up, and everything worked absolutely perfectly. That's a better solution than connecting a bulky external monitory into a portable device.
