How do you get enlightenment?

You don't get enligntenment; it gets you! Simply put, enlightenment is understanding the true nature of reality. The world we live in - our every-day reality - is really a sort of dream. When we sleep and dream we usually don't know we're dreaming. Our dreaming minds think that the dream world is reality. Likewise, when we are awake in our everyday lives we are unaware of another reality. Enlightenment is simply 'waking up' . The only real question is, "Who is this "you" that is going to "get" entlightenment (whatever THAT is)"? Englightenment is the "answer" to the question " who IS it that is doing this seeking"?

My recommendation, is just to meditate hours on end. Don't think about it; it will happen eventually, it's just a matter of stillness and concentration. The idea is to keep your body as still as possible but keep your conscious mind active. A lot of people fall asleep when trying to achieve enlightenment, this is usually because they have chakra issues/they are not pure. You will scarcely see any monks or professionals come as close as you can simply because ,irregardless of how much they lie to themselves, deep down it is their goal and that is the obstacle in their way.

How do you get to enlightenment? I have been struggling with the dilemma that I am spiritually awakened and yet I don’t know that I am. I have traveled a long distance with meditation but I’m not sure where I am spiritually.

You say you have traveled a long distance? Where did you go? You are still here.

You sound like you have made a sincere and honest attempt. That is for sure. However, as you are finding out, awakening is no day-trip to see the Eiffel Tower. It’s more like you cross the desert in the dark and hope you hit the oasis - and the oasis keeps moving around!

You are in a type of condition. There are many, many conditions along the way. Without a guide though, its easy to lose the direction.

Without a guide, it is very hard to ascertain where you are. Like the desert for example, you look around and what do you see? Sand. Sky. Sand. Sky. The only way to know where you are is with the help of someone who is up above that can see the entire view. They can pinpoint where you are.

It is my feeling that it is best to forget about enlightenment. You are creating an idea about what you want and chasing after it. It’s only an idea. Its like holding the carrot in front of the donkey so it moves forward - but it never gets to eat the carrot.

I too, went on for sometime like you and felt the same way you’re feeling. When I happened on to a real master - or maybe when the master found me, that all changed in a drastic way. The path didn’t become clear per se but it was like getting in a supersonic jet and having the pilot take you past the sound barrier then to light speed. Along the way the pilot explains the journey: when you need to put on your seat belt, when you can walk around the cabin, when you’re crossing the Rocky Mountains and when your landing at the destination.

If you think you know your destination (enlightenment) but you don’t have directions, a plane or a guide, well, how will you get there?

You can spend an entire life - and thousands have and still do, searching for the illusive enlightenment and die without having it. It seems tragic.

But, you know what? Many people climb Everest every year and make it to the summit because they have a guide and the way has been well walked over the years.
