their feet really hurt... lol
Seriously: If it is a religious pilgrimage, say to Mecca or World Youth Day or Lordes, while the person(s) travel and then are in their final destination I believe there is a transformation of the soul/spirit/inner character, whatever you want to call it. For me, I made the 2005 World Youth Day Pilgrimage to Colonge, Germany to hear the Pope speak and to visit the shrine of the Three Kings (The Wise Men). While on my way, I visited Assissi (walking the places of St. Francis, St. Clare; and MANY churches), Rome (visited the colliseum, made my way up the Holy Stairs, many churches), Vatican City (had mass in the Vatican) and did more things than I could list. The point of it all was that it changed my perspectives, my outward actions, my inward emotions, my soul: for the better. The whole experience calls you to CHANGE. To change however you're called to be changed. If you're Christian, going on a pilgrimage will change you more into the person God is calling you to be and brings you closer to Him. That's how a pilgrimage changes a person.
