Ieyasu Tokugawa justified the social hierarchy in Tokugawa Japan by emphasizing the Confucian ideals of order, loyalty, and duty. He believed that a structured society, with the samurai at the top, ensured stability and peace, which were essential for a prosperous nation. This hierarchy was also seen as a reflection of the natural order, where each class had its own role and responsibilities, contributing to the overall harmony of society. Ultimately, Ieyasu's framework reinforced loyalty to the shogunate and maintained control over the diverse social classes.

Slaves were placed in the lowest social order class primarily because they were considered property rather than individuals with rights or autonomy. This dehumanization allowed societies to justify their exploitation, as slaves were often subjected to harsh labor conditions without compensation. Additionally, cultural and legal systems reinforced this status, perpetuating a hierarchy that privileged free individuals based on race, ethnicity, or social standing. Consequently, slaves were denied basic human rights and dignity, solidifying their position at the bottom of the social hierarchy.
Like the Medieval social structure, there were very stark contrasts between the rich and poor in the Songhai Empire. Monarchs were at the top while landless slaves formed the base of the social hierarchy. However, there is one distinct way Songhai differed from Medieval social structure, Songhai religious officials were not considered a separate social class.
It depends on the type of hierachy.
its actually social Darwinism :)
The primary reason is to keep the influence of Christianity away from the people. The Tokugawa government was established on the ground of caste system on top of which samurai comes. The egalitarian ideology in Christianity conflicted with such social hierarchy, and considered as potentially risky for social stability.

Before the Meiji Restoration, Japanese society was feudalistic, with a strict social hierarchy led by the warrior class (samurai) and ruled by the Tokugawa shogunate. The country was isolated from the rest of the world, with limited contact with foreign powers. The economy was based on agriculture, and strict social classes limited mobility and opportunities for many people.
