30-45 meters-depending on type. The kill zone on some was farther than they could be thrown hence the need for cover.
grenade
The Nazi stick grenade was easier to throw and use, but I believe the 'standard' frag grenade could be thrown further will skill and practice. Actually, the German stick grenade was able to be thrown further (quite a bit further, in fact - 40-50 yards vs 15-20 yards). However, Allied "pineapple" grenade was significantly less bulky and lighter, enabling more to be carried. They both worked about the same in terms of effectiveness.
The term "hand grenade" implies that it was thrown by hand, instead of being propelled by other means as with a rifle grenade or an automatic grenade launcher, which incidentally were not invented in ancient China. The first grenades were hand grenades since there was no other way to propel them, yes?
First of all, a basketball could be thrown far if the person throwing it was strong, while if a weak person throws it, it won't go as far. So as you can see, it depends on how muscular the person is.
Steel splinters are provided by the grenade casing and produce a casualty radius of 15 meters, with a fatality radius of 5 meters, though some fragments can disperse as far out as 250 meters.

grenade
The stick (on the German stick grenade) provided a lever, significantly improving the throwing distance. The Model 24 (stick grenade) could be thrown approximately 30 to 40 yards, whereas the British Mills bomb (pineapple grenade) could only be thrown about 15 yards. Source: Wikipedia

A blind? I'm not sure I understand your question.
The hand grenade hasn't been replaced - it's still in use worldwide, even with the most technologically advanced military forces. Rifle grenade launchers, grenade launchers, and underbarrel grenade launchers were developed not to replace the hand grenade, but as a means of filling the gap between a thrown hand grenade and a mortar.
