It was so harsh for the warriors during World War 2 that sixty percent of the warriors suffered from combat fatigue and had to be taken to the rear to be treated. Some never recovered and went home with mental illness. The men who did not get swallowed up by combat fatigue came home to the US and did not talk about the war. In fact it was so bad the men did not really talk about it for FIFTY YEARS. I know a many who did not talk about it for 32 years to his family. One man died never revealing to his family he had been in the Bataan Death March and a prisoner of war until he was liberated. They found out from a brother.

That should give you and idea of how horrible it was. Imagine being around bomb after bomb explosion, men dying all around you screaming, dirt flying, smoke choking the air, the stench of death was sickening and then add mud, rain and little white worms and flies around the dead bodies. Only that is the nice part. I did not mention the body parts and blood. So it only get more gruesome and I cannot put any more on a family web site.
